How to write a company founding story people retell
A founders story with stakes, proof, and a “had to exist” reason.
Name the tension that made the company inevitable
A founding story is persuasive when it defines a tension: what was broken, what was missing, what was unacceptable.
Avoid generic “we wanted to help people” language—use a specific before/after.
Add proof: early constraints and early wins
Constraints prove commitment. Early wins prove that the market responded.
Write one paragraph each: (1) what was hard, (2) what changed.
